My opinion
As of yesterday, March 26, 2020, the United States became the country with the most COVID-19 cases of the whole world, surpassing Italy and ultimately, China. But what does this mean for the world? Is this a sign from nature telling us once more than we are not in full control as we always stated?
Most people put their efforts into recriminating coronavirus as if it were the creation of the devil himself, but the truth is, this is just one of the hundreds of natural filters that have altered human history in unimaginable ways, being the Bubonic plague and the Spanish flu the most famous cases. What if I told you that the Bubonic plague was a major factor in allowing the birth of the Renaissance in western Europe? It was back in the XIV century when people began wondering; if God was a truly generous and loving being, how could he allow innocent women and children to die in such a horrendous and disgusting way? This lead to a huge change in human mentality, which switched from a completely theocentric to a homocentric view.
Furthermore, coronavirus has taught us a lot of things about our role as the "supreme species" of the Earth, it's just a matter of watching the news and realizing the huge environmental effect this pandemic is having around the world, dolphins in Venice, cougars in Santiago de Chile, raindeer in Canada, events that haven't been seen for decades are now coming back to marvel our eyes.
Another element worth considering, it's the impact the sudden decrease in the world population will have. In most developed countries, the elderly are the largest population group, in a worrying global phenomenon known as "Population aging". With the introduction of COVID-19 though, and as gruesome or dark as this thought might be, the natural filter will act, especially in countries like Italy, Spain, and France, de-aging the population in a certain percentage. Although no one wants their grandparents to die, myself included, if we look at the facts and numbers, this event will bring some economic and social relieve in European countries. A sad but accurate truth.
With that being said, I believe my opinion is more than obvious, things happen for a reason. Everything and everyone has a determined place in history, we are mere humans and we cannot control nature. Let this be a demonstration that we are not owners of this world, but simply hosts, hosts that are not doing their job correctly, and who knows, maybe, in the end, we will be able to find a light at the end of the tunnel. One day, this pandemic will stop and we will realize how foolish we were before and that now, hopefully, we are better.

Good job Catalina and Agustín. By the way you can change the subject and post a new topic (because those earn you 2 points)
ResponderBorrarI agree with everything you are saying here, because at the end of the day, this planet is NOT OURS. The current situation is the perfect example of how we are a mere fragile spec in this world, and it need to be taken care of.
ResponderBorrarI agree with you, everything happens for a reason, and even though this pandemic is really bad and has people very scared it may be a way to realize that there are things that aren’t in our hands and that we have to stop and re think how are we doing things and realize the damage we are doing to our planet.
ResponderBorrarI completely agree with you, I also believe that everything happens for a reason and that what is happening is just a product of nature, wich from time to time is responsable of somehow “cleanse” the Earth of all the pollution and contamination, and also remind us how insignificant we are compared to her.
