Florida Governor rejects passengers from cruises with dead and infected with coronavirus
The governor of the state of Florida, Ron DeSantis, rejected the entry of passengers from the Zaandam and Rotterdam cruises to the state.
In an interview with Foxnews DeSantis said that he cannot allow people who are not even from Florida to be dumped there using state resources. Later at a press conference he said he found it a mistake to allow the cruise ship Zaandam and his assistant ship Rotterdam. boarding at Fort Lauderdale, as originally planned, but instead he offered to send medical assistance on board.
His reason for taking this decision was that many of the passengers were foreigners and wanted to ensure that beds were available to people who did live in Florida. The whole situation started when the cruise ship Zaandam began to have several passengers and crew with the symptoms of the coronavirus, that was when the cruise company Holland America sent a ship with supplies, support stuff and virus test kits, and they transferred several passengers who seemed not to present symptoms to the Rotterdam where later it was also affected by the virus.
After being rejected by Florida, the same thing happened with many other ports in Latin America, but finally the Panama Canal allowed them to pass, and currently the ships are crossing the Caribbean. with no destination yet with 189 infected and 4 dead on board.
In my opinion, at first I thought how could anyone do that, but then i started thinking that maybe he has a point, i mean after all if he would have let them pass, they would have put all the rest of the population at risk because the spread of the virus would´t have stop, and, in addition, the emergency rooms would have been filled, depriving residents of access to a doctor, so I think about it and maybe it would also bother me not having access to medical care because the doctors are too busy with people who do not even live here, so on that side I understand why they made that decision but even so I do not feel like it is the right thing to do. But who knows, after all it is very different to think about a situation than to actually live it, and you never know how your way of thinking can change when you find yourself in a situation like this.
What do you think? Was it right or wrong the action that took the governor? What would you have done?
